Science is for everyone – celebrating all women in science

February 11 marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and we want to use this opportunity to recognize all women in this field.

To celebrate this occasion, we highlight the journey of one of our newest team members, Arya Mehta, who has joined us as a Science Communication Manager. She has a background in Biochemistry but found her true passion for science outside the laboratory.

1. Why did you decide to study Biochemistry at university 🎙️?

Right from my school days, I was passionate about how our body functions. This led me to study Biochemistry as an undergraduate to better understand the human body and its chemical processes.

My education highlighted that this field is never static, and research is continuously being carried out on previous knowledge. This constant progress, and the search for new answers is what attracts me most to the field of science.

2. How did you make the switch from Biochemistry to Science Communication 🎙️?

After I completed my undergraduate degree, I wanted to remain in the field of science, but I knew research was not for me.

Through my education and experiences, I realized that what I most enjoyed was sharing and communicating my scientific knowledge and research work with others, not only scientists. This is what led me to pursing a master’s degree in science communication. This degree was a perfect combination of bringing together all my interests.

I know that even though science can be complex, it also has the flexibility to be understood by everyone if communicated effectively.

3.  Any message or advice to encourage young girls to pursue science 🎙️?

Science has something for everyone. I found my interest and love for science outside of a laboratory. Therefore, I would recommend all young girls to not be afraid to explore, you never know, this could be the place for you.
