Yes! We Can End TB is the theme for the World TB Day 2023.
Every year on March 24 📑, we commemorate the World TB Day. This is the day in 1882 when Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium 🦠 that causes tuberculosis (TB), was identified.
Moreover, World TB Day offers the opportunity to increase awareness of the disease and highlight the efforts that have already been made to put an end to the global epidemic.
TB is a serious infection that affects the lungs and sometimes other parts of the body, such as the brain (meningitis), bones, joints and kidneys.
Importantly, there is a vaccine, called Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), named after its inventors Albert Calmette and Camille Guérin. In countries where TB is common and endemic, a single dose is recommended intradermally in healthy babies as soon as possible after birth to prevent serious illness.
The current standard of care for intradermal injections, Mantoux technique, poses some challenges. Hence, VAX-ID offers a solution to standardize intradermal delivery of the BCG vaccine. Furthermore, VAX-ID increases patient acceptability and aids in simplicity of use for healthcare professionals.
On the World TB Day, IDEVAX joins forces to end TB!
