Recent advances in Hepatitis B vaccination
Hepatitis B is a viral infection that attacks the liver and can cause both acute and chronic disease. It is a major global health problem. WHO estimated that in 2022, 254 million people were living with a chronic Hepatitis B infection. Fortunately, Hepatitis B can be prevented by vaccines that are safe, available and effective (1). Recent advances in Hepatitis skin vaccination offer promising perspectives.
Inside this paper :
- Stronger Immunity: New skin-based vaccination methods may enhance immune responses compared to traditional injections. Hence intradermal vaccination could be a more effective vaccination method for non-responders (2).
- Painless Delivery: These approaches aim to reduce discomfort.
- Improved Global Access: The dose-sparing benefit of skin vaccination is especially important in environments with low resources where the availability of vaccines may be limited.
- Results of the study by Van Mulder et al: Immunogenicity and safety of intradermal delivery of hepatitis B booster vaccine using the novel drug delivery device VAX-ID™
