To be prepared for future pandemics and ensure global equitable access to vaccines some key challenges must be addressed :
- Supply Shortages & Stockouts:
Stockouts of essential vaccines which occur on a national and subnationale level, increase the risk populations will not be protected against deadly vaccine-preventable diseases. (1) - Resource Constraints:
A projected global shortage of 10 million healthcare providers by 2030 limits vaccination efforts. (2) - Vaccine Hesitancy:
Fear of needles, especially among children, contributes to declining vaccine-uptake. (3) - Healthcare Worker Safety:
Needlestick injuries (NSIs) are accidental puncures from needles that expose healthcare workers to bloodborne pathogens like HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepaticis C. Next to generating a significant direct and indirect cost, needlestick injuries provoke stress, especially if the HCP is exposed to high-risk patients. (4)
