CrossRoads –  developing ROBYN

CrossRoads –  developing ROBYN, an advanced, user-friendly cobot for automatic intradermal vaccination

Background:

During the COVID-19 pandemic (2020), Idevax and Stemberg developed ROB-ID, a semi-functional vaccination robot capable of administering vaccines accurately, safely, and efficiently vaccinating three times more people than manual methods. Currently, ROB-ID is a prototype that performs vaccination movements with a dummy (without a needle) and includes an initial user interface trial.

Project Aim:

To further enhance accessibility and reduce workload, the CrossRoads project, aims to develop ROBYN, an advanced, user-friendly cobot for automatic intradermal vaccination supported by INTERREG. ROBYN will integrate Idevax’s VAX-ID technology for manual intradermal vaccination with ROB-ID’s automation, enabling safe vaccine selection, preparation, and administration, including automatic reconstitution and assembly.

Partners:

Three SMEs are collaborating on this project:

Specializing in medical devices, robotics, and smart manufacturing, they aim to develop ROBYN while driving social impact in the Flanders-South Netherlands region. The project will enhance vaccine accessibility for healthy adults, travellers, and patients, with plans for expansion across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Europe.

Timelines:

The project started November 2024 and will be completed by October 2026.
