Welcoming José Tijsen, our Business Development Advisor

We’re excited to welcome José to the team! We had the chance to chat with her about her background, her path into healthcare and medical devices, and what excites her about this next chapter.  

José brings over 20 years of experience in commercializing new technology platforms, with a strong focus on market analysis, business development, regulatory strategy and product development. She’s held key roles at companies like Agilent Technologies, Hologic, and most recently, Sanquin Health Solution, where she explored market potential for the CRO services for the Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Medical Device industry. José holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Groningen, and we’re thrilled to have her on board! 

 

1. Can you share more about your education/career trajectory 🎙️?

After completing my MSc in Chemistry and earning a PhD in Chemical Engineering, I began my career in research but soon discovered my true passion was in translating scientific innovation into real-world applications. This realization led me to pivot toward commercial roles, starting with a pan-European position at Gen-Probe (now Hologic), where I balanced technical expertise with business development. I thrived on the opportunity to travel, collaborate with international teams, and contribute to impactful healthcare solutions. 

Over the years, I have advanced through leadership roles in marketing, sales, and business development, working with organizations like Ariosa Diagnostics, Multiplicom (part of Agilent), and most recently, Novosanis (part of OraSure Technologies). My career has been defined by driving the commercialization of groundbreaking molecular diagnostic products, managing cross-functional teams, and developing strategic go-to-market plans that have resulted in substantial business growth and improved patient care worldwide.

2. What interests you most about science 🎙️?

For me, science resembles solving a detailed and challenging puzzle. . The process of connecting ideas, testing hypotheses, and arriving at new solutions fascinates me. From a young age, I was drawn to discovery, spending hours exploring encyclopedias and marveling at early computer technology in school. Although I was the first in my family to attend university, I was fortunate to have parents who supported my curiosity and education with endless encouragement.

3. Why did you decide to pick MedTech 🎙️?

MedTech allows me to combine my love for science with the desire to make a real, positive impact on people’s lives. It is a field where innovation and practical application meet, offering constant challenges and rewards. Through my work, I can help bring cutting-edge diagnostic tools to healthcare providers, ultimately improving health outcomes for individuals across the globe.
