An internship that transformed into a job: My journey over six months

Early this year, Mari joined our Regulatory team for an internship. At the time she began, she didn’t know whether this role or industry was what she wanted to do in the long-term, but felt this was a good starting point to begin her professional career.

During the internship, she worked on a project comparing the post-market surveillance systems for medical devices in the EU and the US. She also analyzed and performed a case study on VAX-ID to highlight the challenges and ease of implementing its regulatory requirements in these regions.

As she continued to work in her role in regulatory for medical devices at IDEVAX, she realized that this could be a place for her. She especially enjoyed seeing how dynamic the industry is, and how important precision and strict adherence to regulations are in developing medical devices. At the end of her internship, she was offered a job as a Regulatory and Quality Assurance Specialist at IDEVAX and decided to accept it.

We asked her a few questions about her new role and what she is most excited about

What is your new role at IDEVAX 🎙️?

In my new role at IDEVAX, I’ll be a Regulatory and Quality Assurance Specialist. I’ll be making sure our medical device, VAX-ID, meets all safety regulations and quality standards. This includes checking compliance, working with the team to meet industry guidelines, and helping get approvals for the device. It’s all about ensuring VAX-ID is safe and effective for patients.

What skills did you learn from your internship that you hope to carry with you into your new role 🎙️?

During my internship, I picked up several skills that I’m excited to bring into my new role. Aside from learning the legal and clinical aspects of the field, I developed strong organizational skills that helped me keep track of all the moving parts of our projects. Communication was key too, I worked closely with the team ensuring that everyone was informed throughout the process. My problem solving and decision-making skills also grew as I dealt with quality and compliance challenges, which will be a big part of my role as a Regulatory and Quality Assurance Specialist.

What did you most enjoy about your internship that made you decide to pursue this further as a full-time job 🎙️?

What really drew me to continue with IDEVAX was the dynamic and fast-paced startup environment. I loved the energy and collaborative atmosphere, where everyone was working towards the same goal. From the start of my internship, I felt like a valued part of the team, and they made sure to include me in major projects, allowing me to learn a lot. This experience deepened my passion for the field, and I knew I wanted to be part of this kind of environment long-term.
